Marionette Lines Treatment - b clinic Skip to content

Marionette Lines

Marionette lines run from the corners of the mouth vertically down towards the chin. These unwanted creases look like the lines on a marionette puppet. They are caused by repeated movement of the mouth and the loss of fat and skin elasticity that occurs naturally as part of the ageing process. Lost skin volume causes lines to turn into deeper creases.

They tend to give the mouth a down-turned appearance, making it look as if you are frowning even when you are not.

Many people feel these lines make them look sad, tired, or older than they truly are.

Treat Marionette Lines With Dermal Fillers

The appearance of marionette lines can be corrected through injections of anti-wrinkle dermal fillers. Dermal fillers can remove the “sad” look caused by marionette line wrinkles and nasolabial folds by restoring lost volume.

Marionette line treatments soften the appearance of these unwanted creases, rejuvenating the lower face.

Who is suitable to have this treatment?

Candidates for marionette lines fillers are adults who want to improve the appearance of wrinkles and folds in the lower face, chin, and mouth area. You may have recently noticed these wrinkles as a result of ageing, or you may have always had lines in this area due to your genes.

Ideal candidates are at or near a healthy weight and are in good overall health. If you are concerned about the appearance of lines around your chin, dermal filler injections may be right for you.

Reverse Visible Signs of Ageing

Marionette lines are a noticeable sign of ageing caused by a drop in elastin and collagen production. Dermal fillers restore the loss of volume and increase the production of these age-fighting proteins to achieve a natural-looking improvement.

Restore Your Smile

Deep wrinkles and marionette lines tend to appear as a downturn from the corners of the mouth. This has the effect of causing a frowned facial expression. By restoring volume to the area, marionette lines treatment can restore your youthful smile.

Natural-Looking Improvement

The procedure helps you to be the best version of yourself. Results are natural-looking, and most people won’t be able to tell you’ve had “work done”.

Non-Invasive Procedure

Dermal fillers for marionette lines is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that requires no downtime or disruption to your daily routine. You may experience mild swelling or bruising post-procedure, but the symptoms should subside over 48 hours.

What to Expect

The marionette lines are treated with dermal filler anti-wrinkle injections during an office visit lasting under an hour. Several types of injectable filler products are commonly used for marionette lines.

Fillers come in a few different types; semi-permanent and non-permanent. The most common is non-permanent because its effects are temporary and can be easily reversed.  Each filler differs in the exact manner in which it builds up volume under the skin and the length of time it remains in the cheeks and chin area.

Your practitioner will recommend the type and brand of filler that’s best for you.

During the marionette lines treatment, a topical anaesthetic cream may be applied, or it may be included with the filler material when injected. Then, multiple small injections are delivered through a thin needle. These injections are placed at sites in and surrounding the crease of the marionette lines on either side of your mouth.

The effects of marionette line injections remain visible for 6-12 months. Eventually, the body absorbs the injected dermal filler, and the lines will reappear.

What Causes Marionette Lines?

Marionette lines are caused by the drop in collagen and elastin production as part of the ageing process.

These proteins provide elasticity and volume to the skin. Over time, the effects of gravity and volume loss cause skin laxity that makes marionette lines more noticeable.

Some people lose elasticity and volume faster and develop marionette lines at a younger age. This can be caused by genetics and other factors like excessive sun exposure, stress, and lifestyle choices.

How Do Marionette Lines Fillers Work?

Dermal fillers consist a gel-like substance that occurs naturally in the body. Once injected into deeper layers of the skin, water molecules to hydrate and lift the skin.

Marionette line fillers replace lost volume in the lower face, plumping the skin from within. Fine lines and wrinkles are reduced, and the crease becomes softer and much less noticeable. The dermal filler product also has a collagen-boosting effect, improving skin texture and tone for a more refreshed look.

Dо Marionette Lines Filler Treatments Hurt?

The injection of the anti-wrinkle dermal filler is not painful. A topical anaesthetic is applied before the treatment to minimise any discomfort. You may feel some pressure during the injections but no pain. After the procedure, you may experience some mild swelling or bruising around the injection sites for up to 48 hours.

Іѕ Thеrе Anу Dоwntіmе Aftеr Dеrmаl Fіllеrѕ in the Corners of the Mouth?

After receiving marionette lines fillers, you can leave the clinic and carry on with your regular routine. For most people, the only noticeable side effect is mild swelling and redness around the injection sites.

You can immediately apply make-up to conceal the signs of treatment.

Ноw Long Do Mаrіоnеttе Lіnеs Fillers Lаѕt?

Results for marionette lines dermal filler treatments typically last from 6 to 12 months. The longevity of the results depends on your metabolism and lifestyle and the amount of dermal filler product used.

We usually recommend that you return to the clinic for a marionette lines filler top-up after around 6 months to maintain your desired results.

What Happens When Marionette Lines Filler Wears Off?

The effects of marionette lines filler will typically last for 6-12 months. The body will absorb the product gradually, and your marionette lines will return to their pre-treatment appearance. Many clients return for a follow-up treatment after 6 months to maintain their rejuvenated look.

If you decide not to have further marionette lines fillers, the treated area will appear the same as it did before the procedure. The treatment does not cause more wrinkles to form.

Will Results Last Longer if More Product Is Injected?

The amount of filler required to achieve your desired treatment outcomes will be determined by your clinician at your free initial consultation. Using too much product can cause unwanted side effects and create results that look unnatural.

Our trained practitioners have years of experience with dermal fillers and cosmetic injectables. You can trust our team to recommend the right treatment and the correct amount of product to achieve optimal treatment outcomes.

How Do I Prepare for Marionette Lines Fillers?

There is no special preparation you need to do for marionette lines fillers. Your clinician may recommend that you stop taking any supplements or medications that could increase the risk of side effects for one week before treatment. These can include vitamin E, aspirin, and ibuprofen.

If you have a prescription for any medicine that could increase the risk of side effects, you should consult your doctor before you stop taking them.

How Do I Prevent Marionette Lines?

There’s no silver bullet to stop the ageing process, but there are some measures you can take to prevent marionette lines and keep your skin looking younger for longer.

Daily Skin Care Routine

Keeping your skin cleansed, nourished, and hydrated is important for preventing visible signs of ageing and maximising the results of anti-wrinkle treatments. Wash your face twice per day, remove make-up before you sleep, and use a gentle moisturiser daily to hydrate your skin.

Maintain a Healthy Weight

When your body weight fluctuates, it increases the risk of skin laxity. This can be particularly noticeable in the area around the mouth and jawline, where marionette lines develop. If you are trying to lose weight, aim for gradual weight loss through a combination of exercise and a healthy diet.

Protect Your Skin From Sun Exposure

Exposure to the sun’s powerful UV rays is one of the major causes of skin ageing. Sun exposure breaks down the collagen in the skin, increasing the risk of fine lines and wrinkles. Protect your skin using an SPF 30-50 plus sunscreen and avoid prolonged sun exposure.

Lifestyle Choices

You can improve your overall health and keep your skin fresher and younger-looking by adopting healthy habits and avoiding those that damage your skin. Aim to drink around 2 litres of water per day to stay hydrated, and make sure you get enough sleep each night.

Drinking too much coffee, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption are all habits that can damage your skin and your overall health.

Possible Risks and Complications

After dermal filler injections into the marionette line area and lower face, side effects can include redness, swelling, and tenderness in the injection site. These effects usually subside within two days. Any redness and bruising can be camouflaged with makeup. Serious complications are rare but include infections and allergic reactions to the injected filler. All risks and potential complications will be discussed during your complimentary consultation with your treating practitioner.

It is also possible for the treatment to result in asymmetry, usually caused by uneven injections into each marionette line. This can be avoided by choosing a skilled practitioner to deliver the injections.

The injected dermal filler can also migrate into lumps underneath the skin. These can often be massaged away to redistribute the filler. To reduce the likelihood of these uneven lumps, avoid rubbing or touching the treated area of the lower face for several days after receiving dermal filler injections.

How Much Do Marionette Lines Dermal Fillers Cost?

This treatment begins at $550, which includes 1mL of dermal filler. Clients with particularly deep or prominent marionette lines may require additional product to achieve their desired results.
