Matrix PDO Threads

The Matrix PDO Thread treatment improves skin texture and quality by thickening and tightening the skin. It can also create volume and support to give a subtle lift to areas of the face and body that are starting to show visible signs of ageing, such as fine lines and skin laxity.

Matrix PDO Threads differ from PDO Thread Lifts, which use long barbed threads to lift tissues. The Matrix PDO Threads activate collagen synthesis to provide an improvement to fine lines and wrinkles.

What Are PDO Threads?

PDO threads are made of a material called Polydioxanone, an absorbable polymer that is flexible and durable. The Matrix PDO Threads work by triggering fibroblasts, which induce collagen production, creating a skin tightening effect that can last 6-12 months.

The threads work by becoming a support structure for your skin, allowing natural collagen production to take place. Over a 6-month period, the threads will be absorbed into the body.

The Matrix PDO Threads come in two different textures, Mono and Double Screw.

The Matrix Mono Thread treatment uses a type of single PDO filament. These threads are smooth and versatile, as they can be safely placed in most areas of the face and body.

Matrix Screw Threads have 1-2 intertwined threads, which provide double the volumising effect of a single mono thread. These threads are perfect for treating sunken or sagging areas that require more volume and lift.

Who is suitable for this treatment?

If you want to improve skin texture and firmness in the face, neck, or chest, you could be a good candidate for a skin tightening Matrix PDO Threads treatment. The minimally invasive procedure is an effective way to boost natural collagen production for a skin rejuvenation effect. The best way to find out if PDO threads are right for you is to book a free consultation with our skin experts.

What happens during a Matrix PDO Thread treatment?

Matrix PDO Threads are a minimally invasive treatment and do not involve any incisions or stitches.

Around 30 minutes before beginning your treatment, a topical anaesthetic will be applied to the skin. Once the area is sufficiently numbed, the PDO threads are inserted into the skin using a micro-needle or cannula in a mesh-like pattern to achieve maximum skin tightening effects.

The PDO threads support the facial tissue, allowing for a gradual skin thickening and tightening effect. The Matrix Mono Threads treatment promotes collagen production and can have a lasting effect for up to 12 months post-treatment.

How long does the Matrix PDO Thread Treatment take?

The treatment time will vary based on the size of your treatment area. A treatment can take between 30 to 60 minutes. You’re free to return to your regular routine as soon as you leave the clinic.

When will I see results from Matrix PDO Threads?

You will begin to see results in 6 weeks, which will continue to improve over the next 2 to 6 months as new collagen is produced. Although the threads will slowly dissolve, you will continue to see the treatment benefits for up to 12 months.

Do Matrix PDO Threads hurt?

Most clients do not describe Matrix PDO Threads as painful. A topical anaesthetic is applied before the procedure to minimise any discomfort during the application of the Matrix Mono Threads. You may experience redness, tenderness, and mild bruising in the treated area for a few days post-procedure.

Is there any downtime?

Matrix Mono Threads are a minimally invasive treatment with little to no downtime. You can return to work and most social activities immediately following treatment.

Your clinician may recommend that you minimise movement in the area treated for a few days after your session to reduce the risk of any unwanted side effects. It’s also advisable to avoid hot saunas and strenuous exercise for a few days to avoid irritating the treated area and increasing the risk of swelling.

Can I combine Matrix PDO Threads with other cosmetic treatments?

Matrix PDO Threads can be combined with Dermal Fillers, Anti-Wrinkle Injections, and  is part of a recommended treatment plan. Your b clinic practitioner will evaluate your skin concerns and advise on the skin tightening and rejuvenation treatments that will provide optimal results.

How to prepare for a Matrix PDO Threads treatment?

Your practitioner will provide pre-treatment instructions during your initial consultation at b clinic. This consultation is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you have about the treatment and what to expect.

You should avoid smoking or alcohol consumption for 48 hours before the procedure. It’s also important to stop taking anti-inflammatory medications for a week before treatment. If you have a history of herpes or other viral skin problems, your clinician may recommend that you start taking anti-viral medicines one week before treatment.

What are the aftercare instructions for a Matrix Mono Threads treatment?

You will also receive aftercare instructions to help you achieve optimal results following your Matrix Mono Threads procedure. This includes avoiding strenuous exercise or saunas for 72 hours and not using any oil-based skincare products for 24 hours post-treatment.

It’s important to take care of the treated area and avoid any massages, rubbing, or cosmetic treatments that could dislodge or interfere with the PDO threads for around two weeks.

Possible risks and complications

Matrix Mono Threads are minimally invasive skin tightening treatments with much less risk than cosmetic surgery. However, all cosmetic treatments do carry the risk of some unwanted side effects.

It’s not uncommon to experience tenderness and mild swelling and bruising in the treated area following Matrix Mono Threads. However, these side effects are mild and typically subside within 48 hours of treatment.

In some cases, Matrix PDO Threads can result in more severe side effects, including visible sutures, hematoma, dimpling of the skin, and snapping of the thread material. As with all injectable treatments, there is also a small risk of infection.

The risk of potential complications can be minimised by choosing a professional clinic with trained and experienced medical staff.
