Dermal Fillers vs Anti-Wrinkle Injections: What’s the Difference? By Dr Frank

Dermal filler and anti-wrinkle injections are two of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic treatments. Both procedures can help you to reverse visible signs of ageing and improve or enhance your appearance. But there are significant differences in how the treatments work, and the concerns they are used to treat. When it comes to your skin and your health, it’s important to know the facts about any treatment you are considering.

Keep reading to understand the difference between these two treatments.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

The  dermal fillers products that are now commonly and widely used in aesthetic medicine are non-permanent HA fillers. HA stands for Hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that occurs naturally in the body, and plays an important role in the skins suppleness and hydration.

Premium non-permanent HA fillers are now favoured over permanent fillers as they are safer and are highly effective in creating natural looking contours, and adding definition and volume where needed.

As the body ages, it produces less collagen and elastin. These proteins are integral to the skin’s ability to repair and form connective tissue. The skin can appear thinner and dehydrated. Wrinkles and folds begin to appear as the body produces less of these proteins. Dermal fillers restore the lost volume where collagen and elastin have broken down.

An injection of dermal filler can be used to reverse visible signs of ageing around the eyes, cheeks, jawline, and to increase the volume of the lips to create a more hydrated & youthful appearance.

What Are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections or muscle relaxants consist of a purified version of a protein. We use small amounts of product to smooth the appearance of wrinkles and can prevent new lines from forming.

This treatment is commonly known to be an effective rejuvenation treatment for crow’s feet, frown lines, forehead lines, and in many more areas.

There are a few well-known brands of anti-wrinkles products worldwide.

At b clinic, we have been using a premium brand of muscle relaxant for over the last 20 years, and has been proven to be safe and highly effective for achieving natural and long lasting results for our clients.

As the body ages, the consistent muscle movements beneath the skin begin to cause fine lines and wrinkles on the surface. Anti-wrinkle injections relax the muscles, allowing the skin to move into a more natural position and appear smoother and more youthful.

Do Dermal Fillers Hurt?

A local anaesthetic is usually injected into the area before a dermal filler treatment. You may experience the sensation of pressure, but the injection itself is fairly painless. After the procedure, you might encounter mild swelling or bruising around the injection site for up to 48 hours, but there is no significant downtime.

Do Anti-Wrinkle Injections Hurt?

The majority of my clients don’t feel any significant pain during the procedure. Some areas are more sensitive than others, and some people are more susceptible to pain. You may experience a slight discomfort for a few minutes during the treatment. There is a slightly possibility of minimal bruising but usually there is no downtime with anti-wrinkle injections, and many clients return to work in the afternoon after receiving treatment during their lunch hour.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The longevity of results for both procedures depends on the area being treated and the metabolism, age, and lifestyle of the individual.

Generally, anti-wrinkle injections last from 3 to 4 months. For deeper lines, you may require more than one treatment in clinic. At b clinic, we offer our clients a free treatment review 2 weeks following their initial muscle relaxant treatment and if required, we offer a free top-up to further treat any unwanted movement in the treated area.

Dermal fillers typically last longer than anti-wrinkle injections, but the longevity of results depends on the type of filler product and the area being treated. The hyaluronic acid is naturally absorbed over time, with areas that have a greater movement, such as the lips, mouth, and eyes breaking the filler down faster than areas like the cheeks and chin. In general dermal fillers last from 6 to 18 months before another dermal filler treatment is required.

Differences Between Dermal Fillers and Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Both anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers counteract visible signs of ageing and help you to achieve a younger and fresher look. However, the procedures have a different effect on treated areas and are used to improve the appearance of different concerns.

Anti-wrinkle injections help to eliminate and soften fine lines and wrinkles. Relaxing the muscles beneath the skin stops the aggressive contraction that causes wrinkles to appear. The procedure can help you to achieve a more youthful appearance, and prevent wrinkles and fine lines from becoming more profound and noticeable.

Dermal fillers restore lost volume to areas that are showing signs of ageing through a loss of elastin and collagen. It can be used to fill hollows under the eyes, to smooth lines and wrinkles to enhance definition and symmetry to the facial structure. Lip fillers are an increasingly popular treatment for achieving a more kissable pout with natural results.

Different Applications for Different Medical Circumstances

The right treatment for you depends on the result you wish to achieve.  Dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections are used to treat different areas of the face and to treat different concerns.

Anti-wrinkle injections are typically known for treating the upper face, as these are the areas where over-active muscle contraction is most visible. Forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and frown lines appear in the areas where the muscles are used to convey animated facial expressions. However, we can also effectively treat the lower face to achieve a more pleasing and fresher appearance for the client.

Many people think that dermal fillers are generally only used to enhance facial features, such as lips and cheeks. However, dermal fillers are a highly effective treatment for correcting and rejuvenating the appearance. As we age, there are many internal and external changes occurring that affect our appearance. The outward appearance of lines and wrinkles does not just depend on the skin but on the internal structural components. Dermal fillers can assist in restoring the depletion of facial fat layers and rejuvenate where there has been a visible loss of facial volume, without this deep structure the skin begins to sag causing unwanted lines, folds and hollows.

Common Applications for Anti-Wrinkle Injections

The majority of my clients request anti-wrinkle injections to treat worry lines (frown lines), forehead lines and crow’s feet around the eyes. But this non-invasive cosmetic procedure can be an effective treatment to achieve better contours and definition of jawline as well as the following concerns:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Facial slimming (jaw slimming)
  • Oral commissures (around the mouth)
  • Platysmal bands (neck bands) also known as ”Nefertiti Neck Lift”
  • Overexposed gums (gummy smile)
  • Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
  • Nasal scrunch known as ”Bunny scrunch”
  • The nose tip to improve the downward movement of the tip
  • Chin dimpling

Common Applications for Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a versatile non-surgical treatment to add volume and enhance or improve the appearance and visible signs of ageing, including:

  • Restore lost volume to under eyes, temples and brow
  • Fill in hollows and shallow contours
  • Add volume to mid face
  • Enhance cheekbones
  • Correcting/ enhancing nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty)
  • Enhance the jawline
  • Add definition to the chin
  • Lift the corners of the mouth
  • Rejuvenate lips
  • Enhance lip volume
  • Smooth deep lines in crow’s feet, frown lines or forehead lines

Both anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers can be combined with other non-surgical treatments for a full facial rejuvenation. The treatments are often used together and combined with skin treatments such as laser resurfacing for a healthier glow and smoother complexion.

How to Choose the Right Treatment for Your Skin

One of the primary considerations for anti-wrinkle injections is the appearance of “static lines”. If your wrinkles are visible even when you have a neutral facial expression, you may benefit most from anti-wrinkle injections.  Clients are also a looking for preventive treatments, and muscle relaxants are highly beneficial to delay or prevent unwanted lines or wrinkles from forming.

For clients that desire to freshen up their appearance or are seeing signs of unwanted hollows or areas of sagging skin due to loss of volume, dermal fillers may be more suitable for helping you achieve your treatment goals.

During the consultation, I will listen to your concerns than assess your face and your natural features whilst observing your facial expressions, the ones that make you special and unique. I will then discuss with you the treatment options and clearly explain to you the whole process until you feel comfortable. In order to achieve a natural result it is important that I tailor a treatment plan that does not interfere with or mask your unique and beautiful characteristics.

Relax, Restore and balance.

How stress hormones affect your skin, and how to combat the damage they cause.

We’re sure that after a year like 2020, we don’t need to tell anyone how much stress can affect their wellbeing. However, what you might not know is that all of this stress can take a real toll on your body’s largest organ—your skin.

So, what’s doing all the damage? There are actually three different stress hormones, and all of them can mess around with the health of your skin:

  1. Adrenaline. Turns out it’s never good to be a junkie—even if it’s just for adrenaline. Good in small doses, adrenaline raises your blood pressure and heightens your senses while zapping your energy.
  • Noradrenaline. You may have heard of adrenaline before, but have you met its good friend noradrenaline? They can alter your body in similar ways, but noradrenaline is more interested in draining your ability to concentrate and affecting your moods.
  • Cortisol. This one’s a biggie. Cortisol can control many functions in your body by suppressing your digestive system, altering growth processes, and even injecting more glucose into your blood stream—all in the name of triggering your fight or flight senses!

While these three stress hormones do have their place in your body, prolonged exposure can wreak havoc on the health of your skin, nails, and hair!

The stress hormones will:

  • Compromise your immune system.
  • Increase inflammation and blood sugar levels.
  • Break down collagen, the primary protein that makes up your skin.
  • Deplete Vitamin B, which is crucial for healthy skin.
  • Speed up the ageing of your skin’s collagen elastin.

Take advantage of your time off this holiday season to restore, rest, relax, and repair your body.

Let’s not stress out at the thought of stressing out! It’s entirely possible to rejuvenate your skin back to its pre-2020 glory by making some simple lifestyle adjustments.

Here’s a few ideas to get you started:

  • Prioritise rest and sleep to start the repairing process. A bit of shut eye seems to be the answer to all our body’s ailments these days, and repairing your skin is no exception! Make sure you set aside some of your time off to catch up on a bit of the inevitable sleep debt.
  • Stay hydrated. Water is best, but you can always make staying hydrated more exciting with a lemon wedge or a slice of cucumber. Beverages such as soft drink, coffee, and alcohol—while delicious—won’t stave off your thirst.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure. Prolonged exposure to the sun will cause your skin to lose moisture and its natural essential oils, causing it to appear dry. It’s best to avoid long periods in the sun but it is summer, after all! Make sure to slip, slop, and slap with SPF 50+ sunscreen if you’re planning a day at the beach to reduce the sun’s effects on your skin.
  • Resist the urge to binge drink. Relax, there’s no need to put that bottle of bubbly back on the shelf. Enjoy alcohol this holiday season but moderating your intake will also moderate your cortisol levels. Plus, alcohol is actually dehydrating, so you’re killing two birds with one stone here!
  • Fuel your body with nutritious meals and snacks. You are what you eat, so make sure you eat something good! Dietary advice can be subjective, but make sure you listen to what your body needs and research healthy alternatives to those naughty cravings we all have.
  • Consider taking supplements to cover what your diet’s missing. The most beneficial supplements for skin health to look out for are Vitamin C, Biotin, Vitamin E, Zinc, Selenium, Silica, and Collagen powder.

Have you been searching for a collagen supplement that contains everything you need for a happy gut and radiant, healthy skin? We recommend Optima Nutricosmetics Ultimate 1.0 Complete Skin Elixir. During December clients can receive 20% off and free shipping. If you’d like to taste it before you buy, we have a handful of single-dose samples to give away during December. Ask our friendly staff at your next treatment visit.*Available at Fortitude Valley, Sunnybank & Burleigh Heads clinic locations while stocks last.

These tips are a great place to start on your journey back to a healthy hormonal balance and radiant skin, but one size doesn’t always fit all. Our skincare specialists at b clinic are happy to help you create a customised skin-care routine. And—with our free skin analysis consultation, you’ve got nothing to lose!

The Safest and Most Effective Laser Tattoo Removal

Erase the past, and let’s make new memories.

At b clinic we use both nanosecond and picosecond lasers, which are internationally recognised as the safest and most effective for fading and removing tattoos.

Combine our highly trained staff and state of art technology we offer higher success rates in almost every coloured ink, with minimal negative side effects and scarring than any other forms of tattoo removal.

Lasers both nanosecond and picosecond machines need to emit high energy, short lived pulses that aim to shatter tattoo ink particles on contact, this is known as a photo acoustic effect.  This breaks the ink down into tiny particles which allow them to now be absorbed by the body’s immune system.

We use 3 different laser wavelengths at b clinic, and this allows us to treat a variety of different ink colours in tattoos.  Our Revelite and Picosure lasers are 2 of the best in the industry. Our Q-switch Revelite with 1064nm wavelength with nanosecond technology is the gold standard for removing black and darker coloured ink.  Our Alexandrite Picosure with 755nm wavelength and picosecond technology is the next generation of lasers on the market and now we can treat colours once previously not touched by the nanosecond 1064nm, these include green, blue and purples.  Both lasers have 532nm wavelength which can effectively treat red, orange, and pinks.

Laser can completely remove a tattoo or fade for a cover up or modification.  Complete tattoo removal is dependent on multiple factors and not always achievable.  You will need a comprehensive consult to see if this can be achieved for you.  Healing ability, age, size, density and location of tattoo all effect the overall outcome and amount of treatments required for maximum results.

Tattoo removal is a multiple treatment process; usually average 4 – 14 treatments are required, depending on the tattoo.  Amateur tattoos and tattoo fading require fewer treatments, and darker denser tattoos located on lower extremities sometimes require more treatments.

Cosmetic tattoo can also be removed and faded as well; at b clinic we can treat brows, lips and areola.  These types of tattoos have a higher risk of oxidising (darkening/ greying), so a test patch is always required to see if it is suitable for treatments.

Numbing cream can be applied prior to treatment and a Zimmer (cooling device) is used during treatment to provide comfort.  Aftercare is just as important as your treatment so you will be provided with extensive aftercare information to follow to maximise your results.

Hydrate & Glow with Beauty Booster by Marian RN

The Beauty Booster is one of my favourite treatments to target deep hydration and improve the elasticity of the skin, giving an overall healthy glow. This treatment contains thin hydrating dermal filler, consisting of hyaluronic acid (which is naturally occurring in the skin) combined with a cocktail of antioxidants and small amounts of a local anaesthetic to provide comfort during treatment. This hydrating filler is delivered by a handheld device, which uses microinjections, which precisely and effectively evenly distributes the dermal filler to treat the skin.

Most of my clients enjoy anaesthetising cream prior to treatment, which can greatly minimise any discomfort. All areas of the face, neck decolletage and hands can be treated with excellent results. The beauty booster treatment works to not only boost the radiance of your skin, but it will also assist in stimulating your skins own collagen production to create skin densification, hydration & tonicity. It is ideal for clients of all ages and for those who want to boost the benefits of their skincare regime. Results can be seen after the 1st treatment and cumulative results give longevity, up to 9 months.
For optimal results, it is recommended 2-3 treatments in the initial stage over 3 months. I recommend my clients maintain their results with 3 treatments over a year, e.g. before and after summer, and during winter.

Following the treatment clients can expect to see small spots appear after treatment and usually disappear 12-48 hours post-treatment – makeup can help.
It is the perfect treatment for clients wanting to maintain a natural, youthful appearance and reduce the signs of skin laxity and fine lines. Ideal to have between your regular injectable, skin or laser treatments.

A consultation is always advised to eliminate contraindications and plan the best options for my clients.

Matrix PDO threads for non-invasive facial rejuvenation – What you need to know by Dr Mitch

At b clinic, we’re seeing more and more clients turn to non-invasive skin treatments to boost collagen production, improve the skin texture and elasticity and compliment muscle relaxant and dermal filler treatments.

b clinic’s Matrix PDO (Polydioxanone) Thread treatment offers a new and unique way to boost collagen production and create volume and support to areas of the face that are showing visible signs of ageing. Although this treatment is reasonably new, PDO threads have been used for more than 20 years in orthopaedics, plastic and ophthalmic surgery. This track record gives them an excellent safety profile and minimal risk.

It is important to note that the new PDO threads are very different from the classic “thread lift” procedure. “Thread lifts” use a larger and longer barbed thread to attempt to lift larger areas of the face-up against gravity. This is very different from Maxtrix PDO Threads which are gently and strategically placed under the skin to stimulate your own body’s collagen to create a firming and tightening effect to improve skin texture from within.

Matrix PDO threads come in two different textures, Mono Thread and Double Filament Thread. Mono Thread is the most commonly used type and has a single fine layer of PDO which acts to stimulate collagen evenly around its placement. Whereas, Matrix Double Threads have a longer but intertwined thread offering the same great collagen stimulation with some added volumising effect compared to the single mono thread.

Who is it for?

From the age of 30 onwards, the amount of collagen we produce decreases rapidly, contributing to sagging skin, wrinkles and fine lines. To counter this, the Matrix PDO Thread treatment is great for all clients looking to boost natural collagen production. It is for those wanting an effective treatment that works in conjunction with muscle relaxant and dermal filler.

While medical-grade fillers and other injectables contain ingredients that help to restore volume, the PDO thread treatment causes micro-stimulation to the skin which encourages your skin to kickstart its own collagen production, leading to increased volume and firmness over time.

This treatment is particularly useful for the “tough to treat” lines that routine skincare and muscle relaxant doesn’t seem to be improving.

The most popular areas to be treated include:

  • Marionette lines
  • Periorbital lines (around and under the eye)
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Accordion lines
  • Peri-Oral Rhytids (Lip lines)
  • Lower face (chin, neck, buccal)
  • Eyebrows
  • Horizontal forehead lines

How does it work and when will I see results?

During a PDO thread treatment, a topical anaesthetic will be applied to the skin. Once the area being treated has been sufficiently numbed, the threads will be inserted into different layers of the skin using a micro-needle or canula in a mesh-like pattern to achieve optimum tightening effects. The insertion of the threads into the skin causes micro-stimulation, which encourages the fibroblasts in your skin to generate new collagen and elastin, which in turn improves skin health, texture and elasticity.

Treatment times vary based upon the area being treated and downtime is minimal with some bruising to be expected. You will begin to see results in 6 weeks following treatment, which will continue to improve over 2-6 months as new collagen is generated. Although the threads dissolve over time, clients can expect to see benefits for up to 12 months after treatment.

Ultimately, the Matrix PDO Thread treatment is a great cost-effective therapy that has long-lasting effects and minimal downtime and risk. When combined with other skin rejuvenation therapies or injectables, it is perfect for clients wanting to maintain a natural, youthful appearance and reduce the signs of skin laxity and fine lines.

Know Your Frown by Dr Frank

Frowns or scowls are a common concern for most clients.

As cosmetic doctors, we deal with these prominent facial expressions every day. Why? Because the muscles you use to bring your eyebrows together to form a frown (the procerus, corrugators, and eyebrow depressors) will naturally create wrinkles in between your brows (the ‘glabella area’) and your forehead.

Every facial expression is connected to a human emotion. We often express displeasure, sadness, anger, worry, curiosity, confusion and concentration in the form of frowns. They can appear in different degrees depending on the emotion or thought behind them, and also in conjunction with other facial expressions. They help us read someone’s face and differentiate one person from another.

It’s not all bad. Some consider frowns are negative, while others believe they denote thoughtfulness. That’s why they are called “thinker’s wrinkles”.  Sometimes these lines give a person’s face character, and we won’t suggest treating them. If you’re happy, leave it alone.

But, in most clients, frown lines don’t accurately represent how they feel. We often see these deep furrows and tracks on the faces of playful, cheerful personalities.

Which character are you?

  • Serious?
  • Thoughtful?
  • Stressed?
  • Focused?
  • Angry?

The benefits of treating frown lines with muscle relaxants

  1. Prevention is better than cure.
  2. We can soften and (in some cases) smooth the appearance of these wrinkles over time.
  3. Most of our clients want to seem less annoyed or angry because they often don’t feel this way.

At b clinic, we don’t take a one-fits-all approach to treat frown lines.  During my years of practice, I have identified four main types of frowns and, of course, you could have a combination of the below:

Frown Type I:

Before treatment—this client has no sign of visible wrinkles but can contract her glabella with difficulty then can relax the muscle after expression. Muscle relaxant treatment result will usually last 5-7 months for this client.

Frown Type II:

This is the most common type of frown! They can easily move their glabella and completely relax the muscle after the expression. He/she will achieve lasting treatment results in 4-6 months.

Frown Type III:

This is a very strong frown. Even at rest, you can clearly see the muscle contraction and permanent lines etched into the skin. At this stage, the glabella can move perfectly but cannot completely release and relax.

Also, the medial part of the eyebrows tends to rise with movement—usually the result of a shorter lasting muscle relaxant treatment, perhaps three months or less. In some people (especially some men), this type of frown could express a unique character. It could be a beautiful expression—absolutely do not change it!

Frown Type IV:

A powerful glabella can cause this type of frown. He can never fully release and relax the muscles and, when they’re contracted, the medial part of the eyebrows tends to fall. This is usually challenging to treat, and he will have to wait at least a year to see long-lasting results with regular treatment.

Please note: Clients with permanent frown lines (types III or IV) can effectively treat their permanent lines with a dermal filler. Used in conjunction with a muscle relaxant, this will smooth and fill in the lines and prevent new lines from forming.

Which type of frown do you have?

Understanding someone’s character through their frown and treating it appropriately is an art.

It’s not always about achieving no muscle movements—the treatment depends on the individual.

During your consultation, I will examine your facial movements and ask about your desired outcomes. Taking into account your personality and other facial expressions, I’ll create a result that perfectly suits you.

The cost of a muscle relaxant frown line treatment $230.

Enhance your appearance without the pain, expense, and downtime of surgery with Dr Elle

Facial fillers are a quick and convenient way to make yourself look more youthful and well-rested.

Dermal fillers are based on a gel material that contains an ingredient that occurs naturally in the body. Used carefully with advanced injecting techniques, dermal fillers can keep you looking naturally beautiful for longer.

Fillers are often described by the thickness of the gel – thin, medium or thick. Due to Australian regulations, we are unable to mention brand names and tend to simply refer to the thickness of the filler. At b clinic, we have carefully selected a range of premium thick, medium and thin fillers. This is fabulous as it allows me to tailor your treatment plan based on what you desire and what I think is suitable following careful aesthetic assessment. For instance, the dermal filler I would select for treating the signs of ageing in the under eye area (often referred to as the tear trough) differs from that which I would choose for jawline enhancement or chin enhancement.

The cost of dermal fillers generally depends on the quantity and type being used. At b clinic the price for our premium fillers is $480 for 1ml, $880 for 2ml, $1320 for 3ml and $1760 for 4ml. Unlike many of our competitors, we have chosen not to charge a higher price per ml for medium and thick fillers. This means that you can feel confident that regardless of the filler that is most suitable for you, even if you need a range of filler thicknesses, your treatment will be extremely cost-effective.

During your personalised cosmetic injectable consultation I will determine the type and volume of dermal fillers that best suit your needs. Using a variety of advanced cosmetic injecting techniques I will sculpt and rejuvenate your appearance with dermal fillers that are appropriate for each area of concern.

Areas that I would recommend thin or medium dermal filler for include under eye hollowing and lip filler treatments. Cheek filler is one of my commonly performed procedures and for this, I would most often prescribe a premium thick filler for increased impact and longevity. I very much enjoy treating what is often referred to as “the lower third” ie the lower part of the face. The lower third can be enhanced with jawline filler and chin filler to create a very appealing facial aesthetic – I tend to select thick filler for these treatments. This lower part of the face is often treated to rejuvenate the face to create a more youthful appearance by hiding jowls and strengthening the jawline. Using multiple advanced injectable techniques I treat with a combination of medium and thick dermal fillers to hide the signs of ageing.

These examples above are by no means an exhaustive list of the places I can use dermal fillers to make you look your best. There are many other techniques that can be used to keep you looking naturally beautiful. We offer free comprehensive cosmetic injectable consultations at b clinic. I would be thrilled to see you for a thorough medical cosmetic assessment and we can begin your journey into the exciting world of dermal filler together.

Lip flip treatment, no dermal filler required!

A treatment for those with a small upper lip, or if their top lip rolls inward when they are smiling and are wanting it to appear bigger and more prominent.

A lip flip is achieved by injecting a small amount of muscle relaxant into the orbicularis oris, the muscle that controls the mouth and lips, being careful to only paralyse the superficial layers of the muscle so that it doesn’t affect the lip closure function.

A lip flip will create the illusion of a bigger lip by rolling out the top lip, without adding volume and elevating the corners of the mouth.  Due to the small amount of muscle relaxant being injected into this area, it will need to be treated again in two to four months.

The downside of this lip augmenting procedure may include not being able to close the mouth properly, and it is important to note if you play a musical instrument that requires this mouth action it may affect you being able to do so. Drinking through straws and pronouncing the letter “P” may also become more difficult.

To see if you are a suitable candidate for this treatment please book a free consultation with one of our experienced practitioners.

To book please call our friendly team on 1300558188 or alternatively you can book online

Facial Slimming vs Jaw Enhancement

Many of our clients have asked us what’s the difference between jaw enhancement & jaw slimming treatments. The answer is simple…

Enhancing the jawline with dermal filler injections can create a more angled, defined jawline. Strengthening an undefined and weak jawline can create more balance in the lower face and can also decrease the appearance of jowls, or hanging folds of fat and skin drooping beneath the jawline. The results of this treatment can be seen instantly and can last 4-8 months.

However, a strong square jawline is not a facial feature that everyone desires.

The jaw slimming treatment has become very popular among those who are looking to create a slimmer, more feminine facial appearance. It is also an ideal treatment for those who are wanting relief from the pain and discomfort associated with excessive teeth grinding and clenching, known as bruxism. Clients that suffer from bruxism may notice that they have overdeveloped masseter muscles (chewing muscles). The bulking up of these muscles can make the jawline appear squarer, wider & more masculine.

What to expect from this treatment?

A few days after a jaw slimming treatment, clients may begin to notice visible results in their jawline. Within about ten days, the injected muscle relaxant will take full effect, relaxing and slimming their jawline.

The effects of this treatment can last 3-6 months. Over time, the injected muscle relaxant will wear off, as the muscles regain their strength.

Results 10 days post Jaw Slimming Treatment using muscle relaxant.

Immediate results. Jaw Enhancement using 2ml of dermal filler

To see if you are an ideal candidate for either of these treatments please book a free consultation with one of our experienced practitioners.

This treatment is available at b clinic James St, Chermside, Coorparoo, Sunnybank, Robina, Mooloolaba and Brisbane city.

Stretch Marks & Loose Skin Solution

Majority of the time stretch marks are unavoidable. As they develop from a rapid change in body shape, for an example during:
•Pregnancy •Puberty •Growth Spurts and Weight Gain.

In fact stretch marks, loose skin are completely normal postpartum. There is nothing wrong with them. However, we understand that they can be a cause of great concern and distress for many people. And we do respect the choice that some of our clients have made to treat them and we are very grateful that we can assist them through the process.

When to treat & how do we treat them?

The earlier we treat them the better as older stretch marks (white in colour) are more difficult to treat.
Our New eTwo Sublative Radiofrequency skin treatment system is effective at treating the deep tissue layer (dermis) of the skin, where it can produce a significant increase in both collagen and elastin with minimal disruption to the epidermis (top layer of skin).

The eTwo Sublative is a new category of fractional skin treatments that uses bi-polar radio frequency and infrared light to tighten and rejuvenate the skin. ⁣⁣
Penetrating into the dermis, the energies stimulate new collagen and elastin production to help reduce the appearance of not only stretch marks but wrinkles, acne scars and more.
⁣⁣It is safe and effective in treating all skin types and the following conditions:⁣⁣

  • Fine lines and wrinkles⁣⁣
  • Acne Scars ⁣⁣
  • Stretch marks ⁣⁣
  • Uneven skin texture caused by sun damage ⁣⁣
  • Skin discolouration & superficial pigmentation

⁣⁣eTwo Sublative Treatment Benefits:⁣⁣
Increases skin brightness, firmness, smoothness, and wrinkle & scar reduction.⁣⁣

How we treat loose (skin laxity) on the body.

The VelaShape III technology combines infrared,bi-polar radio frequency and vacuum to precisely heat the tissue which results in a localised reduction in volume, skin laxity and an overall improvement in skin structure and texture.

The Bipolar Radio Frequency penetrates and heats deeper tissue, breaking down and reducing fat whilst stimulating new collagen for skin tightening.

Most clients can feel and see a noticeable change in the texture of their skin in the weeks following their initial treatment.  To achieve optimal results we often recommend 3-6 treatments.

Real Results…We greatly appreciate our client Julie, for sharing her personal story…

“After having my daughter nearly 10 years ago my stomach has always been an area I have struggled to get back to how I felt comfortable and confident. I’ve been actively going to the gym for a few years now but still could never manage to get results I was seeking. Since having a treatment of VelaShape lll and Sublative I have seen a dramatic change in my stomach and it has been life changing for my confidence and how I feel in my skin I couldn’t be happier”.

Before & after VelaShape III & eTwo Treatments*Individual results may vary.⁣⁣

Julie’s treatment breakdown:⁣⁣
1x eTwo Sublative Radiofrequency treatment to treat stretch marks and tighten the skin. ⁣⁣

Having healthy, radiant skin all comes down to self-care and a consistent skincare regime.

Do you have a consistent skincare regime? If the answer is no, don’t worry; you’re definitely not alone. Is this maybe because you’ve had a cosmetic injectable and don’t feel you need to do anything additional, or you aren’t aware of the importance of having a skincare regime? Or do you just simply not have the time to commit to upholding one? Whatever the reason, not everybody makes the time to take care of their skin, but there are definitely more benefits to doing this than there are to not.

Your skin is your largest organ, so making sure it is looked after is extremely important. The truth is that the results following makeup applications or cosmetic injectable treatments are far more rewarding when they work alongside glowing, healthy skin. Your skin is your canvas, so making it a priority to nourish and take care of it on a daily basis is crucial to its health and longevity.

Every person has individualised needs based on their own skin so it is important not to compare yourself to others when trying to find the skincare that’s right for you. The key is to identify the goals you would like to reach with your skincare, and if a certain regime doesn’t end up working for you, don’t be disheartened! External changes including the season and frequent travel, and internal changes such as health, diet, and hormones all affect the health and appearance of your skin. Also, if you are blessed with naturally supple and youthful-looking skin, don’t let it deter you from the benefits that will be reaped from skincare in preventing the signs of premature ageing.

The first thing you need to do is to address your main skin needs.  Identify your problem areas, buy skincare products that are made to rectify those specific issues, and add onto them when necessary. This will obviously differ from person to person, but if you are new to this, use the following five-step system as a guide:

  1. Cleanse
  2. Exfoliate and renew
  3. Hydrate
  4. Restore and rejuvenate
  5. Protect

Also, if you want some skincare range ideas, let us help. We recommend using super clean ingredients that contain botanically based products that feature clinical levels of active ingredients and avoiding those that contain synthetics and skin-irritating chemicals. COSMEDIX is a skincare brand that puts the skin’s delicacy at the forefront by only using the purest ingredients that work to correct some of the most troublesome skin concerns. Our own brand, b skin, is a scientific-based range of skincare that was designed with ease of use in mind. We stock and recommend both of these products not only due to their effectiveness but also because they are free of fragrances, dyes, and parabens, and are completely cruelty-free.

By crafting a skincare routine you will be doing everything necessary to preserve and give life to your skin. Having healthy, radiant skin all comes down to self-care and a consistent skincare regime. Following those five steps we suggested is a great place to start, but if you don’t see any results please take advantage of the free skin analysis consultations that we offer here at b clinic—our friendly skin experts will guide you on your path to creating a personalised skincare routine.

Can VelaShape III Treatments Work For Me?

Regular exercise and a good diet are crucial to a balanced and healthy lifestyle. We all know this, and most of us live by it. Despite maintaining this, however, we have found that many people still struggle with hard-to-tone areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. If you relate to this in any way and have been thinking of getting a little bit of extra help, we may have a solution for you: VelaShape III.

VelaShape is a non-invasive body contouring treatment that reduces the appearance of cellulite and improves skin quality. This procedure treats a variety of areas including the buttocks, thighs, stomach, and hips, and is best known for its contouring capabilities on disproportionate areas of the body—“love handles” and “muffin tops”, for example. Because of its ability to shrink the fat cells, the VelaShape III treatment can create a smoother, more toned appearance in the skin, and target areas of the body that just won’t respond to exercise.

Despite this, it is not a permanent fat reduction technique; once you have reached your ideal results with the VelaShape treatment they can be maintained by keeping healthy and exercising, and ideally with follow up maintenance treatments. Velashape could also be a good option for mothers who want to tone their tummies post-pregnancy—VelaShape may be beneficial as it can boost the collagen and elastin production, and also assist in toning and firming the appearance of the stomach area.

Here at b clinic, we believe that everybody, and every body, is beautiful, and the VelaShape treatments can be considered if you are having trouble crafting the body you’d love through a healthy diet and a consistent exercise regime. We also believe that self-empowerment and self-love are extremely important, so if you are wanting to reduce the appearance of cellulite or need help smoothing out any slack skin then VelaShape III could definitely be beneficial.

We all know how frustrating it is to work so hard for something but not see the results that should’ve appeared from the amount of effort we’ve put in. It’s disheartening and off-putting, especially if we’ve been doing all the right things.

If you lead an active and healthy lifestyle and have found yourself in this situation, book a free consultation with one of our VelaShape experts to see what VelaShape III could potentially do for you.

Want an “all-natural” approach to enhancing & maintaining your youthfulness?

It feels like there’s a new fad cosmetic procedure being thrown at us every week, and this information overload can be extremely overwhelming—especially to those who are new to the world of cosmetic treatments. Figuring out which treatment to choose and, more importantly, which will give you the most natural and the most effective long-term results, is the trickiest part of the entire process. Well, don’t stress about it anymore; we here at b clinic have done the hard work for you as we pride ourselves on bringing our clients only the most efficient and effective procedures.

We give to you: the eTwo multi-platform system. The eTwo multi-platform system offers two treatments: the Sublative treatment (skin rejuvenation and resurfacing) and the Sublime treatment (skin tightening and contouring). Both of these procedures stimulate a natural response within the deep layers of the skin, and it’s the natural response that these treatments initiate that makes the eTwo system so effective in combatting a range of different skin conditions and imperfections. It’s also this natural response that has made the eTwo multi-platform system so in-demand.

The Sublative treatment is a procedure that is used to reduce the intensity of mild wrinkles and skin discolouration, and improve the smoothness and elasticity in the texture of the skin. Basically, the applicator delivers fractured bipolar radio frequency into the deep layers of the skin, which then initiates a strong healing response and ultimately encourages the growth of healthy new collagen and skin cells. Because of the deliberate reduction in superficial skin imperfections, improvements in tone and texture will most likely be noticed when the skin is healed. Also, if you didn’t think it could get any better, think again: this treatment is effective on all skin types, and can treat acne scarring as well!

Unlike the Sublative Treatment that typically requires 2-7 days of downtime (depending on the strength of the treatment) the other half of the eTwo system, the Sublime treatment, involves virtually none; this is a non-invasive procedure so most clients leave with only slight pinkness. Because this procedure heats the deep layers of the skin, shrinking old collagen fibres and stimulating the growth of new collagen, the Sublime treatment is ideal for the long-term improvement of fine lines and wrinkles—it improves the texture, firmness and quality of the skin, the complexion is smoothened out and evened, and sagginess of the face and neck can also be effectively combatted.

As with any skin procedure, the number of treatments required to achieve the desired outcome and the downtime to heal post-treatment differs for each individual. The price range for the respective Sublative and Sublime treatments differs also: the Full Face Sublative treatment costs $450, whereas the price for a single Sublime treatment starts from $290. Although each treatment offers their own key benefits, the two can be used simultaneously as well as in combination with other treatments, including Microdermabrasion and IPL.

To find out if you’re an ideal candidate for either or both of these treatments, please book a free consultation with one of our skin experts. Book online or Call 1300558188

The Art of Facial Rejuvenation Using Dermal Fillers

One of the most rewarding aspects of operating for twenty years has been establishing long-term relationships with clients and growing with them as our methods and practices have grown as well. If you’ve been following b clinic for a while you’ll know we pride ourselves on helping our clients, old and new, look and feel fresher by restoring their unique and youthful appearance, not by changing their natural facial features completely.

One way in which we achieve this is by rejuvenating certain areas of the face using dermal fillers. This may sound daunting, but we promise that it’s not! The most common feedback we hear from our facial rejuvenation clients is that they are constantly receiving compliments from their friends (and even they’re unsuspecting partners) and that they “never seem to age”. This is obviously the perfect result for the client, but it’s also ideal for the practitioner; the subtlety of the cosmetic help means a job extremely well done.

More men and women in their early thirties have begun to seek minor facial rejuvenation treatments as this age bracket is generally the one in which subtle changes begin to appear: the nasolabial folds may be become more pronounced and the under eye area may not look as youthful as it once did. Sometimes our clients don’t even notice these changes as they occur, putting them down to stress and exhaustion rather than recognising them as normal signs of ageing.

The art of creating beautiful, natural results relies on three important factors. The first is listening to the individual clients’ concerns and desires. From our experience, we know that when it comes to facial rejuvenation, an overtly obvious change in the face is the undesired outcome. As we said earlier, we and our clients grow together, so noting their wants and desires early on in the process is integral to our methods.

The second is accurate assessment of the clients’ existing facial structure. Our b clinic practitioners are experts at this. Not only is this to track and understand what losses or changes have taken place to the underlying facial structure, but also to observe the individual clients’ natural facial expressions. This is extremely important in ensuring that the dermal filler placement is exact, as the product injected must not alter or interfere with the natural facial expressions.

And lastly: the use of the safest and most advanced techniques. This is vital in preventing short-term and long-term complications and also in avoiding damage to the underlying structures of the face, such as the facial expression muscles. At b clinic, our passion is to achieve beautiful and satisfying results for each of our clients, working with them to attain their desired outcomes. We want to empower the men and women that seek out our services and support them in feeling confident in their appearance at whatever age and point of life they are at. It’s why we do what we do.

If you’d like to know more about facial rejuvenation, please don’t hesitate to book a complimentary consultation with one of our very own experts.

Free consultations are available at all six of our b clinic locations: Robina, Sunnybank, Coorparoo, Fortitude Valley, Chermside, and Mooloolaba.

Here we have a before and after comparison of a facial rejuvenation treatment using dermal fillers. The treatment was performed by Dr Lee using cannula technique and 2ml of dermal filler. Notice that no changes have been made to the clients’ facial structure, though she looks brighter and more awake after the dermal fillers were injected. The injections were made into the tear trough (the under-eye) and the nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth). Even though the utmost care is taken when performing each procedure, every individual is different, and the results may vary.

“Ready, Set, Party! Prepare your skin and yourself for the silly season.”

The silly season has rolled around again—like us out of Grandma’s house after Christmas lunch. As wonderful as this time of over-eating and excessive alcohol consumption and mandatory toleration of the in-laws can be, busyness and stress are both almost certainly inevitable, and can appear not only internally but externally as well. If this jolly time already has you and your skin feeling dehydrated and worn out, don’t panic; we are here to help you manage your stress levels, boost your skin glow and have you feeling ready for everything the festive season has to offer.

We know that you will most likely be over-indulging in the coming weeks—because honestly, who won’t be?—but just make sure you let your body rejuvenate so you can make the most of this wonderful time of the year. Continue on as normal with your exercise routine, or if you don’t have one, consider going for morning walks or doing some gentle laps at the local pool. At the very least, just ensure that some “me-time” is a priority. By not completely throwing out your existing health routine you will be helping yourself, both physically and mentally, with the extra stress that may be put onto your body and your mind during the holidays.

You should also make an effort to keep yourself hydrated—it may sound simple, but we all need a reminder. We’ve all been guilty of forgetting to keep hydrated when we are on the go (or when we’ve had one too many Christmas cocktails). When you’re dehydrated, your skin is too, and this can leave your complexion looking dull and tired. Add some slices of fresh lemon to your glass of water to flush out the toxins, kick start your digestive system and rehydrate the body.

Another easy way to boost your skin’s health from the inside out is to add a collagen supplement to your favourite smoothie or to your glass of lemon water. If you don’t know where to start with this, worry not—we’ve done the hard work for you! We recommend Intrametica Collagen Ultimate+. This scientifically formulated inner beauty collagen powder is designed for long-term use, and will actively improve the texture and clarity of your skin by supporting cell-renewal and tissue quality. It also helps to maintain clear and healthy skin and to also protect against further damage.

If glowing, radiant skin is on your Christmas wish-list this year, our suggested treatment is the Carbon Laser Facial. This gentle laser treatment can instantly improve your skin’s tone and texture, creating a clearer, smoother more glowing complexion.
A muscle relaxant treatment is also a very effective treatment that can quickly give your appearance a fresh pick-me-up, especially when treating the forehead and frown lines wrinkles. Both of these skin-smoothing treatments are immensely beneficial, so feel free to book a consultation with one of our experienced doctors or nurses by calling 1300 558 188 or by booking online.

Also, if you’d like to get your hands on some of the Collagen Ultimate+, you can pick some up from our James Street or Sunnybank clinics.

Happy jolly-ing!

Addicted to Feeling Fresh, Part Two

Nothing in this world is better for your health and wellbeing than a big dose of self-care. That’s right, not even a hot bath with candles and a glass of Pinot Noir —although that’s one way to self-care! Before the pre-Christmas madness takes its toll we would like to offer you some helpful tips & encouragement get you started on your self-care journey.

Taking baby steps towards crafting a self-care routine will progressively help you become better at finding out what it is that makes you feel happy and refreshed. It may sound like a lot of work when you consider taking care of your canvas and your health, but you shouldn’t put a price or a limit on your own wellbeing, and you should never let anyone tell you that it’s vain to invest in a consistent beauty and/or health regime. Take care of your skin and your body and your mind in a way that suits you and be ready to reap the many rewards that come along with it.

Also, if you’re a bit short on cash, never fear! The acts of self-love and self-care do not have to come solely, or at all, from your wallet. Drink more water; go on a hike; get to bed earlier; shake your booty to Beyoncé when you hear her; YouTube that guided meditation video you’ve been meaning to but never have—release those endorphins and feel-good hormones in any way you see fit. We promise that it’ll all be worth it when you’re feeling fresh and happy.

We know what you’re thinking, because we’ve thought it before as well: “I’ve heard all of this already, so what makes you think I’m going to listen to you?” Our reply to this is simple: don’t invest in your self-care routine because an article is telling you to, do it for your own happiness, and because you care about “you”. Take charge. Be the director of your life. Forgive the cliché, but if you’re not the one taking control of your own life, there will be nobody else to do it for you. Now go do that facemask!

Addicted to Feeling Fresh, Part One

Here at b clinic we are committed to assisting each client, whether male or female, to prevent and undo the signs of ageing. If we’ve realised anything over the past eighteen years it’s that no two of our clients have ever been the same—each have their own individual wants, needs, and desired outcomes. Something that every single one of our valued clients has had in common, though, is their shared wish to feel fresh every day by crafting a canvas that is glowing from the inside out. Skin radiance is a massive factor contributing to this feeling of freshness, and we have many treatments that can help this on its way.

Regardless of whether you know the in’s and out’s of this industry, or have never walked through the door of a cosmetic clinic, there are treatments that suit anybody and any lifestyle. If you’re a busy bee and need something that requires little to no downtime, we recommend our IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatment or our Carbon Laser Facial. IPL Skin Rejuvenation uses gentle pulses of optimised light to treat unwanted pigment and facial redness, which can occur as we age. Our Carbon Laser Facial, on the other hand, penetrates the pores and helps reduce blackheads and acne, and can simultaneously reduce oily skin and improve skin texture.

If you are willing to dedicate the time to receive multiple treatments of a combination of laser technologies, our cosmetic practitioners are more than happy to design a treatment plan that will align with your own individual skin concerns and goals. Our Action II Fractional Laser, Revlite Laser, and Picosure Laser procedures all assist in treating unwanted skin discolouration, sun damaged skin, lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, enlarged pores, and lost skin elasticity. Dermal fillers can also help to restore lost volume, and will ultimately leave you with an undetectable rejuvenated appearance.

If you think that any of these treatments would increase your own feeling of freshness, please do not hesitate to book a free consultation with one of our expert cosmetic doctors or nurses today. Our range of treatments here at b clinic leave our clients feeling fresh when they walk out our doors, and taking baby steps in order to begin and maintain a happier, healthier lifestyle will add to this feeling. We will be giving you the tools to do just that in our next blog post, so stay tuned!

Interesting fact about Anti-Wrinkle treatments

Did you know that over time, muscle relaxants can ‘train’ your facial muscles not to move excessively thereby giving you long-term benefits?

With ongoing muscle relaxant treatments your facial muscles – especially the ones that cause those unwanted lines – remain relaxed and lose their ‘strength’, significantly reducing their ability to cause wrinkle-producing expressions.

This is true for all muscle relaxant treatments but our clients find this especially beneficial for their frown and forehead lines.

Prevention is Key: At 21, this beautiful babe had begun noticing her makeup was starting to settle in the creases of her frown & forehead lines.

Acne Awareness Month… Our Guide To Acne Free Skin

Acne outbreaks can be hormonal or lifestyle related and can affect anyone at any age.

And If you’re interested in preventing acne flare-ups and maintaining, acne-free skin you need a long-term plan.

Here are our best dietary tips that can be used in adjunct along with our Carbon Laser Facial treatment and your daily skin care regime for preventing breakouts and promoting a smooth, glowing complexion.

Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory effects;

Eating a diet rich in fresh salmon and oily fish, (avoid tinned fish) and flaxseed.

  • If this is hard to achieve through your diet, you may consider taking a daily dose of a product like Bioceuticals Omega -3 EFA supplement.

Eat less refined vegetable oils like sunflower oil (high in omega-6 fatty acids) and replace with fats high in omega-3 essential fatty acids is shown to be beneficial. Switching to olive oil which is high in antioxidant properties can help. Healthy oils recommended for your skin are Olive oil, Avocado, Almond, Flaxseed, Coconut, Sesame, Walnut & Macadamia oil.

 Limit Omega-6 Fatty acids;

Omega-6 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids (EFAs), and a certain amount is necessary to the human body. However, excessive amounts of these fats can be harmful to people suffering from acne. Excess omega-6 fatty acids can increase inflammation associated with acne-prone skin by producing substances like inflammatory prostaglandins. Avoid fried foods.

 Follow Low Carb / Low Sugar / Low Glycaemic Diet with Plenty of Protein;

Carbs that have a high Glycaemic Index (GI) rating are quickly broken down by the body and cause a quick, rise in blood glucose levels, which triggers the pancreas to release large amounts of insulin. Alternatively, low-GI carbs, which take much longer to digest, cause a small, slow rise in the blood glucose and insulin levels. Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use glucose for energy, but excess insulin in the bloodstream can lead to a sharp increase in circulating androgen and insulin-like growth factor, which are associated with acne. Most non-starchy vegetables, legumes and fruit have a low GI rating.

Refined carbohydrate-rich foods like potatoes white rice and sugar are rated high on the Glycaemic Index, avoid/limit these. Replace with rye bread or brown rice/quinoa. Replace sugar with Stevia or Xylitol.

 Ensure Sufficient Intake of Vitamin A & Vitamin E;

Research suggests that a decrease in vitamin A (retinol) and vitamin E levels is strongly associated with an increase in the severity of acne. The beneficial effects of these two vitamins on acne are believed to result from their ability to affect and reduce the inflammatory aspects of acne.

Vitamin A is also believed to control sebum production that makes skin oily.

Nuts, seeds and avocados provide a source of vitamin E (NB: however, nuts and seeds may cause acne breakouts in some people, try activated nuts as an alternative). Food sources of vitamin A include liver and oily fish. Dark green leafy vegetables, deep yellow or orange vegetables and fruits are all rich in beta-carotene, a precursor to vitamin A.

  • Your clinician may also recommend a topical Vitamin A cream, from the b clinic, b skin range Renaissance. this assists with speeding up the skins natural rejuvenation process and improves the skin barrier function.

 Limit Dairy & Soy Products;

Research strongly suggests that a high consumption of dairy products can induce or aggravate acne in some people. The impact of dairy on acne is believed to result from the hormones contained in milk. The hormones contained in the milk of a pregnant cow may break into androgens, which can contribute to the severity of acne flare-ups.

Dairy products produce a high insulin response, like white bread.

Also, beware of soy milk, as a dairy replacement, plant estrogens can also play havoc with your hormones.

Eat Chromium Rich Foods;

Regular consumption of foods containing chromium may prevent pimples and acne due to chromium’s ability to stabilize blood sugar levels. Excessive sugar in the blood stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum.

Mild deficiencies in chromium are common in Western countries, where consumption of processed foods is high. Also, physically active people, people who drink lots of coffee or tea, and people who consume high amounts of sugar have a higher risk of being deficient in chromium.

Good dietary sources of chromium include romaine lettuce, onions, tomatoes, whole grains, and potatoes. To get the most health benefits from these foods, combine them with foods high in vitamin C which increases the absorption of chromium.

Include Zinc-Rich Foods in Your Anti-Acne Diet;

Foods that contain zinc are among the best foods for reducing your acne. Research suggests that the mineral zinc may alleviate acne symptoms, especially if a deficiency of this important mineral is present. Some researchers have found that zinc supplementation could be as effective for acne as traditional antibiotics.

The acne fighting properties of zinc are believed to result from its ability to reduce inflammation and to kill bacteria associated with acne. Zinc also plays a role in protein synthesis and in collagen formation, both of which are necessary for maintaining healthy skin. Zinc has been shown to be able to significantly reduce sebum production on the surface of the skin. Zinc is also necessary for converting beta-carotene to vitamin A.

Good sources of zinc include seafood, oysters are a rich source as are oats and pumpkin seeds.

  • If you are unsure of adequate daily dietary zinc intake, a product like Bioceuticals Vitamin C & Zinc powder, or Zinc Drops may help to supplement your diet.

 Avoid / Limit Excessive Amounts of Salt;

High amounts of iodine in the diet can cause irritation in the pores and cause acne flare-ups in some people. Iodine is an essential trace mineral, but the body needs it only in small amounts. It is not uncommon for people to consume too much iodine. For example, just two to three cups of milk contain the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of iodine for adults (approximately 150 mcg). The iodine content of some fast foods exceeds the recommended daily intake by as much as ten times! Significant dietary sources of iodine include milk, processed / fast foods. Healthier options for iodine include kelp, dulse seaweed flakes, eggs, and organic strawberries.

Eat Fresh Fruit & Vegetables Daily;

Not All Fruit and Veggies are equal when it comes to fructose (fruit sugar) and carbs.

Apples, pears, pineapples and mangoes have a very high fructose content so enjoy but in moderation. Potatoes are high in simple carbohydrates so reduce/limit your intake.

You should aim for a minimum 10 fresh fruit and vegetables serve a day, for optimal vitamin C intake.

  • If this is difficult to maintain products like Bioceuticals Ultra C powder is a supplement to promote collagen and elastin production, which is essential to generate new skin and reduce inflammation.
  • Your clinician may also recommend Vitality C serum lite from the b clinic b skincare range.

Drink Plenty of Water / Avoid Caffeine & Soft Drinks;

Good hydration will help flush out any toxins and reduce skin breakouts. Aim for minimum 8-10 glasses per day. Coffee messes with your blood sugar levels which can, in turn, cause excess sebum production, interrupt skin cell renewal cycles and trigger inflammation in the body. Alternatively, Green tea is full of polyphenols which is great for your skin.

Boost your health & beauty from the inside out

We’re loving Nutra Organics collagen supplement for an all-out glow.

While we haven’t researched all the collagen supplements on the market (there are too many to count), some of our b clinic staff have started trialling Nutra Organics Collagen Beauty, and we’re so excited about it we wanted to tell you more.

And though supplements are never a substitute for regularly eating whole foods with a healthy balance of macronutrients, plenty of antioxidants and natural anti-inflammatories, there are some benefits to collagen in a supplement form.

A few facts about collagen

For those not in the know, your skin is made up of over 75% collagen – and it’s a critical factor in ageing.

But fewer people realise collagen is also essential for gut and digestive health – your personal powerhouse for wellbeing. Studies now show your gut is where your immune system gets its oomph and where over 70% of the happy hormone, serotonin, is made – so it’s important it’s in A1 shape!

Collagen delivers the necessary building blocks to restore and repair your gut lining, keeping your immune system strong and increasing your overall well-being. And, a healthy gut also slows the ageing process!

Collagen starts to degenerate in your mid-20s. Lifestyle and environmental factors can accelerate its loss further, and there’s no easy way to get it back – unless you eat a lot of bones and connective tissue, it’s often not a regular part of your diet.

Collagen supplements can help.

Why we like Nutra Organics Collagen Beauty

Collagen Beauty helps to positively influence skin structures and counteract skin-ageing, improving and smoothing your skin’s appearance from within.

We particularly like it because it contains VERISOL® Bioactive Collagen Peptides (or Hydrolysed Collagen) that, unlike a topical cream treats deep where wrinkles are formed, rather than just the surface of your skin. Clinical studies have found VERISOL® peptides the most effective in stimulating cell regrowth.

Nutra Organic’s blend has been specially crafted with vitamin C, zinc and silica to increase collagen absorption and effectiveness. It’s flavourless and odourless, so it’s super easy to mix into your coffee, yoghurt, soup or smoothies. Plus, being 98% protein, low kilojoule, with no sugar or carbohydrates, it contains only the good stuff for your skin (and gut).

What we’ve found.

Those trialling Collagen Beauty at b clinic are reporting that they are starting to see signs of:

  • Noticeably firmer and smoother skin with fewer wrinkles
  • An increase in dermal pro-collagen
  • Reduced cellulite
  • Significant improvements in skin moisture
  • Better gut health.

So, if you feel your skin and gut need to get their glow on, it might be time to give collagen supplements a try.

Remember, everybody is unique. If you’re not currently following a balanced diet or don’t see the results you want from supplements, we recommend working with a qualified nutritionist or dietician. We can all do with a little extra love & support now and then xoxo
